  • Product Overview and Definition of Flexible Shaft Coupling

The NL type nylon internal gear coupling is suitable for inter-shaft and flexible transmission. It allows for relatively large axial, radial and angular displacements. It features a simple structure, convenient maintenance, easy disassembly and assembly, low noise, small transmission efficiency loss and long service life. The shaft hole types include cylindrical (Y), conical (Z) and short cylindrical (J). The shaft holes and keyways are processed in accordance with the provisions of the national standard GB3852-83 "Forms and Dimensions of Shaft Holes and Keyways of Couplings". Operating temperature: -20℃ to +700℃, torque range: 40N.m.

 The half coupling is made by precision casting, with HT20-40 cast and ZG35I1 cast steel. The shaft hole and keyway are formed by drawing. The outer sleeve of the elastic body of the internal gear coupling can be made of various hardness materials such as synthetic rubber, polyurethane rubber and reinforced nylon elastic body according to the user's requirements.

Flexible shaft coupling (also known as flexible coupling) is a transmission device that compensates the relative displacement of two axes by elastic elements. Compared with rigid coupling, its core advantage is that it can absorb vibration, buffer impact and adapt to axial/radial/angular deviation. According to the structure difference, it is mainly divided into quinum-shaped, gear type, universal joint and claw type.


Technical features and advantages of Flexible Shaft Coupling

1.Displacement compensation capability
It can handle angular deviation ≤3°, axial displacement ±2mm, radial deviation, and is suitable for installation error or thermal deformation scenarios.
2.Vibration reduction and thermal insulation
Elastic elements (such as rubber star block, plastic claw) can reduce transmission vibration by more than 30% and achieve electrical isolation.
3.Modular design
Some models support blind insertion of components (such as the EKM series) for fast maintenance without removing the motor.

  • 1.Compensation bias: This is the primary function. Flexible components (such as rubber, polyurethane, metal sheet, diaphragm, etc.) can undergo elastic deformation, absorb and adapt to various misalignments between axes, and ensure the continuity of power transmission.
    2.Buffer vibration reduction: It can mitigate the impact and vibration from the motor or the load side, protect the key components in the transmission system (such as motors, bearings, reducers, etc.), and improve the smoothness and life of the system.
    3.Vibration absorption: Some types of flexible couplings (such as elastic pin type) can isolate vibration to a certain extent and prevent vibration from passing between devices.
    4.Transfer torque: the most basic function, the drive shaft power is reliably transmitted to the driven shaft.
    5.Electrical insulation: for couplings with non-metallic elastic elements, it can provide certain electrical insulation performance.


How to choose the right flexible coupling

1.Torque demand:
Rated torque: the torque that the coupling can transfer stably for a long time.
Maximum torque: The peak torque that can occur in the system (such as starting, braking, stuck). The coupling must be able to withstand this torque without damage.
Safety factor: The rated torque is usually chosen to be 1.5-3 times or higher than the calculated torque, depending on the application condition.
2.Deviation:
The amount of radial, angular, and axial deviations that may exist in the system are evaluated. The allowable compensation amount of the selected coupling must be greater than the actual deviation amount.
3.Rotational speed:
There is a maximum allowable speed limit for the coupling. Ensure that the working speed is below this value. High-speed occasions should choose the type of high dynamic balance accuracy (such as diaphragm type).
4.Space size and aperture:
Determine the outer diameter and length of the coupling according to the installation space. The diameter of the shaft determines the aperture of the coupling.
5.Environmental factors:
Temperature: high temperature or low temperature environment will affect the performance of elastic body, at this time should give priority to the choice of metal coupling.
Medium: The presence of oil, chemicals, dust, etc., which will affect the selection of materials (such as oil-resistant rubber, stainless steel).
6.Performance Requirements:
Backbacklash: precision positioning system (such as robot, CNC machine tool) requires zero backbacklash, diaphragm type or bellows type should be selected.
Rigidity: For servo systems requiring fast response, couplings with high torsional rigidity should be selected.
Insulation: Whether electrical insulation is required.
